Cobblestone
Software, Inc. is a company based in the Route 128 area outside of
Boston, Massachusetts. The company was founded by Dr. Thomas Antognini
and Professor Walter Antognini, the creators of the PaperDisk
technology, in March of 1995. Cobblestone's mission is to enable, and
popularize, hardcopy data storage, and to enable creative uses of bar
code technology in hyperlinking the world of paper and the physical
world. We believe that nearly every printed piece of paper has a
digital story to tell, and we are dedicated to forging the link between
paper and the digital world. Cobblestone has already been granted three basic US patents, 6,098,882, 6,176,427, and 6,820,807, and has a number of
others still in progress. One of these patents, 6,820,807,
clearly covers the basic concept of using bar codes as physical world
hyperlinks -- a breadth that is unsurprising given our own priority as
the pioneering company in this space. For background on the PaperDisk technology see:
Paper presented at US Postal Service Technology Conference in 1996 This
paper includes discussion describing a new paradigm of user interface,
in which 2D bar codes serve as hyperlinks from the physical world to
the digital world. It is, to the best of our knowledge, the first such
public description of this revolutionary paradigm. More information about Cobblestone and the mobile space.
